Welcome & Roles

Send new members a personal greeting, automatically assign a role, and let them pick their own interest roles — all from one settings page in the dashboard.

Setting up the welcome message

In the dashboard under Welcome → Messages, pick a channel and write the message. You can use a plain text message or build an embed with color, image, and fields.

To address the new member directly, use the placeholder {user.mention} — it gets replaced with their @ mention automatically. A typical welcome message looks like this:

Hey {user.mention}, welcome to {server.name}! You're member #{server.memberCount}. Check out the rules in #rules and grab some roles in #roles.

When someone leaves, Lythea can optionally send a farewell message to a separate channel.

Auto Role on join

Under Welcome → Auto Role, set which role new members receive automatically — e.g. a base role that unlocks certain channels, or an "Unverified" role if you run a verification step first.

You can assign multiple roles at once. Bot accounts can be excluded.

Self Roles (roles by click)

Self Roles let members assign themselves roles without you or your team stepping in. Typical uses: interest roles, notification roles ("ping me for streams"), game roles.

You create a self-role message in the dashboard: write the content, pick a channel, then map roles to it. Per role, you add a button or emoji. The bot posts the message — members just click.

You can configure whether someone can hold multiple roles at once, or whether the selection is mutually exclusive (e.g. for color roles: only one active at a time).

Available placeholders

These placeholders work in welcome and farewell messages:

• {user.mention} — @ mention of the new member
• {user.name} — username without @
• {user.id} — Discord user ID
• {server.name} — name of the server
• {server.memberCount} — current member count
